Why More People Are Turning to Hearing Aids Today

Happy senior benefitting from wearing hearing aids.

If you notice more people in your circle of friends, family, and colleagues turning to hearing aids, it’s not just because hearing loss is on the rise, but also how good–and easy to use–hearing technology is today. Overall, the current populations of adults that intersect with common ailments such as hearing loss are much more comfortable adopting technology to help solve problems or even enhance their abilities to stay on par with their younger selves.

A proactive, technological advantage at any age

If Millennials have the advantage of being digital natives, then aging Boomers and Gen X are taking advantage of using technology to extend and enhance their abilities in professional and social situations, keeping the playing field as even as possible for as long as possible. In the case of hearing aids, advancements in technology have not only improved the experience, they have also made this change in lifestyle seamless and virtually invisible.

A discreet way to hear better

In-the-Canal (ITC), In-the-Ear (ITE), or Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) are examples of hearing aids that fit inside the ear, making them more appealing to patients with moderate hearing impairment who, in the past, may have opted to simply do without.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) are what most people think of as traditional-looking hearing aids with the main housing sitting behind the ear and a very small receiver situated inside the ear canal. Add to these innovations in size the advantage of integrating any of these hearing aids with wireless technology that’s already a part of most people’s day-to-day routine, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or GPS.

A proactive approach

Hearing disorders will grow as the population of aging adults grows. To put that in perspective, 1.2 billion people above 60 will be affected by some form of hearing ailment by 2026, according to the WHO, and 2026 is just three short years away.

Take the same proactive approach to solving and preventing problems through new technologies and apply it to your hearing health. Speak with a hearing care professional and stay tuned in to the world around you.
